The Michigan Gambling Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease-and-desist letters to five websites, accusing them of operating illegally in Michigan. The MGCB specifically identified these websites and instructed them to cease their operations and withdraw from the state. According to the MGCB's official statement, these sites violated several key state laws, including the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, Michigan’s Lawful Internet Gaming Act, and the Michigan Penal Code, by targeting residents of the state.
Multiple breaches reported by MGCB in latest enforcement move
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams commented on the latest enforcement actions, stating: These illegal sites jeopardize the integrity of Michigan’s regulated gaming industry and pose significant risks to players. We will not tolerate unlicensed gambling operations exploiting Michigan residents. Our primary goal is to protect the public by enforcing laws and shutting down these illegal platforms. The websites have been given 14 days to comply with the regulator’s demands. The regulator detailed the offerings of each website, noting that they were illegal under state law. BoVegas Casino provided slots and table games without the required licenses, raising concerns about player safety. Additionally, the regulator noted that BUSR operated both a sportsbook and a casino without essential consumer protections. Similar issues were identified with Cherry Gold Casino and Wager Attack Casino. Lucky Legends was specifically accused of using illegal VIP offers and bonus practices that circumvented state regulations.
Protecting consumers is uppermost on the regulator's mind
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) argued that each website posed a significant risk to consumers, emphasizing their commitment to player protection. Williams stated that the regulator is unwavering in its mission to eliminate illegal gambling, concluding with, We will continue taking strong measures to safeguard the integrity of Michigan’s gaming industry and ensure residents have access to safe, legal, and regulated gambling options. In February, the MGCB similarly targeted nine other websites, demonstrating its dedication to shutting down operators who violate local laws.
