A’s $2bn Las Vegas stadium is on track for completion in 2028

The upcoming Athletics’ (A’s) stadium, which has an estimated price tag of $2bn, is on track to be completed and open ahead of the 2028 season, maintaining its original project timeline. In a recent update on construction work, the Associated Press took a closer look at how the project is shaping up. Project Director for Contractors Mortenson-McCarthy, Tyler Van Eeckhaut, commented on the project’s progress, explaining that much of it is finally materializing, with a lot of rooms taking shape and a lot of that environment has really started to become a component of the stadium. The A’s might have to build a temporary plaza ahead of the 2028 season, as Bally’s Corporation has not yet raised the necessary funding. However, Sandy Dean, A’s vice chairman, remains optimistic about the team entering a fully completed stadium when the first pitch is thrown in 2028. Those guys are doing a lot of things, and we have to remember Bally’s had the vision to bring us to this site. Las Vegas, and we are all going to benefit from being on the Bally’s site. This is just something we’ve got to sort through together with them in the next little bit. The A’s have been getting encouraging feedback from 120 Las Vegas-area residents who were interviewed as part of focus-group studies, said A’s President Marc Badain, although he remained guarded about the input from participants. In the meantime, A’s are playing their second (out of three seasons total) at a Triple-A stadium located in West Sacramento, California, before moving to their new home field over the next few years. The construction of the new stadium and the team's relocation come at a crucial time of resurging interest in baseball in the United States.
