The casino industry in Atlantic City, New Jersey, played a major role in the fight against food insecurity, supporting an important campaign that provided more than 1.2 million meals to people in need.
Nearly $400,000 donated
The campaign, called the Casinos Unite Against Hunger, has helped raise close to $400,000 since its launch just over one year ago, in May 2025. The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), the Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ), as well as notable casino and entertainment operators in Atlantic City all joined forces to support the noble initiative. Notably, the campaign hit a major milestone, raising nearly $400,000 at CFBNJ’s recent Meal on a Mission: A Chef’s Tableside Experience inaugural event, which took place at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City. During the event, the casino industry in Atlantic City collectively donated more than $100,000, supporting CFBNJ’s initiative. The aforementioned sum included a $50,000 donation from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City, as well as $50,000 donation from the CANJ. What’s more, Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City made a $20,000 donation to support CFBNJ, while MGM Resorts Foundation contributed $10,000. Ultimately, the Meal on a Mission event was made possible thanks to CANJ as a Culinary Visionary Sponsor, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City as a Host and Culinary Visionary Sponsor, as well as Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City as an Executive Chef Sponsor and the Borgatta Hotel, Casino and Spa and Ocean Casino Resort as Epicurean Sponsors.
The initiative seeks to eliminate hunger in New Jersey
Elizabeth McCarthy, CFBNJ’s President and CEO, commented in a press release saying: Every day, too many individuals and families around New Jersey face difficult choices between paying bills, keeping a roof over their heads, and putting food on the table. Moreover, McCarthy pointed out: We are incredibly grateful for the support of organizations like the Casino Association of New Jersey as we work to eliminate hunger in the Garden State. George Goldhoff, CANJ’s President, was similarly excited. Meal on a Mission is a powerful example of what can happen when the Atlantic City community comes together around a common goal, he explained. Through our partnership with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Atlantic City's casino industry is helping to create a meaningful, lasting impact for our families facing food insecurity throughout our region, Goldhoff added. Currently, CFBNJ is recognized as the largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization in New Jersey that supports more than 800 local food assistance organizations in more than a dozen counties.
