The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, recently unveiled some striking new data. It reveals a significant decline in gross gaming revenue (GGR) for June, showing almost a 20% drop compared to the same time last year. Released on Wednesday, this report highlights a substantial shift in the gaming landscape.
Online gaming revenue increase helps offset an overall dip in GGR during June
This June, the licensed gambling sector in the country recorded a total gross gaming revenue (GGR) of DKK 585 million ($91 million). Compared to June 2024, there’s a significant drop of 17%, painting a stark picture of the current landscape. The Danish Gambling Authority's latest monthly report provides insight into this shift, especially highlighting the plummeting figures in the betting sector. Betting revenue this June nosedived by 53.5%, settling at DKK 126 million ($19.6 million). The regulator explains that the extraordinary dip can likely be attributed to last June's European Football Championship, which boosted that year’s numbers. Gaming machines experienced a smaller, yet notable drop of 6.5% in their revenue. This June, they hit DKK 92 million ($14.3 million), revealing a persistent downward trend. Land-based casinos didn’t fare much better, earning DKK 32 million ($5 million), a subtle 2.2% dip from the previous year, while land-based bingo added DKK 2 million ($311,100) to the sector’s overall earnings. However, amidst these declines, there is a glimmer of resilience and opportunity. Online casinos showed remarkable growth, generating DKK 333 million ($51.8 million) in revenue, marking a healthy 10% increase from last year. This surge highlights the significant role of online gambling, which now commands nearly half—49.92%—of the total GGR for June, underscoring its growing dominance in the industry.
ROFUS registrations increase steadily
Beyond just the numbers showing the gambling profits in Denmark, the latest report uncovers compelling details about ROFUS, the nation's self-exclusion register. As of June 2025, a striking 62,400 people have taken a stand by joining ROFUS, according to Spillemyndigheden's data. This marks a consistent upward trend year over year. Delving deeper, 40,160 individuals have made permanent commitments to stay registered, while 22,240 have chosen temporary registration options. A notable observation is that men account for a substantial 78.38% of these registrations, with women making up 21.62%.
