Ex-Baltimore City officer wins $1 million Powerball prize

A Maryland Lottery press release confirms that a fortunate man, a regular lottery player, found himself in an incredible situation. Although he typically bought his lottery tickets from Walmart in Fallston, earlier this month he forgot to get a Powerball ticket there. Instead, he picked one up at the Harvest Fare store on Belair Road in Fallston for the August 10 drawing. Surprisingly, he matched all the winning numbers except the red Powerball, earning him a life-changing tier-two prize of $1 million. Initially overlooking his win, he checked his ticket in his car the next day and didn't realize he had matched five white balls. It wasn't until he handed the ticket to his daughter at home that he discovered he had become a millionaire. This news was an incredible surprise for the former Baltimore City police officer, who thought he'd just won a smaller prize. With his newfound fortune, he plans to pay off a recreational vehicle he recently bought, settle some bills, and take a trip to Florida.

The upcoming Powerball drawing is set for Saturday, August 29, 2026. Since no one hit the jackpot on Wednesday, it has rolled over to an estimated $119 million for Saturday. If you choose the cash option, that would amount to around $51.1 million. Keep in mind, though, winning the top prize has odds of about 1 in 292.2 million.
