As the year drew to a close, an exceptionally fortunate lottery player in Australia won over a million dollars by trying their luck with a popular game.
Weekday Windfall makes two lottery players rich
Earlier this week, The Lott, Australia's official lottery provider, reported that its Weekday Windfall draw on Monday produced two winning tickets. One winner hailed from Queensland, while the other was a resident of New South Wales. According to a press release from The Lott, the New South Wales ticket is owned by a grandfather from Penshurst, who recently visited the Lottery headquarters to claim his substantial prize. By correctly matching the winning numbers in Monday night's draw 4485, the lucky player won an AU$1,002,459.70 jackpot. The experienced lottery enthusiast purchased the winning ticket through The Lott's official website. The winning numbers for Monday night's Weekday Windfall draw 4485 were 28, 15, 5, 26, 30, and 16, with supplementary numbers 14 and 9.
A special win
A grandfather from Penshurst recently spoke with Lottery officials, though his name was not disclosed to the public. He shared that he has been playing the lottery for over 30 years. When he discovered he had won AU$1 million, he remained composed. In his conversation with The Lott officials, he expressed joy at winning, saying, I have a big family with lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, so I imagine much of it will go to them. He also mentioned, I used family members' birthdays on my ticket, so the win feels extra special. Reflecting on his history with lottery games, he recalled a time he matched five numbers but had never hit all six. Despite his excitement, he remained calm, stating, I don't plan to do anything extravagant—just save and take care of the kids. He remembered his mother often saying their family wasn’t lucky with competitions and things. But after this win, he feels their luck has changed for the better, and he hopes it continues. What a win to have on Christmas Eve. Thank you to everyone at The Lott, he concluded with gratitude. As of the fiscal year 2025, there have been 227 division one winning entries, with 61 of those winners coming from New South Wales.
