Merkur Group to become new owner of White Hat Studios

The acquisition greatly enhances Merkur Group's position in the iGaming sector, particularly in the United States, where White Hat Studios operates and provides some of the industry's most notable and valuable games. White Hat Studios was established in 2021 after an agreement with Blueprint Gaming, which enabled White Hat Gaming, the parent company, to acquire the studio's games and RGS technology, creating a strong foundation for the new studio. Michael Gauselmann, Merkur Group Chair, expressed his satisfaction with this progress: Having initially ventured into the online space in Europe through our Blueprint acquisition in 2012, I am thrilled with this latest development and confident that White Hat Studios will be a fantastic addition to our group. Led by Andy Whitworth, a seasoned White Hat Gaming veteran, the studio rapidly expanded its influence in the United States, consistently delivering innovative games that have reshaped expectations for studio output in the US iGaming market. Whitworth shared his enthusiasm about the development: Joining Merkur Group is an exciting milestone for everyone involved with White Hat Studios and, fundamentally, it is the best strategic move to achieve our goals for future growth and product innovation. Merkur Group, a German-based operator managing both land-based and online sports betting in Europe, has been actively seeking to expand in the United States.

The German gaming powerhouse sharpens focus on the US

The company announced plans to speed up its growth in the U.S. by leveraging White Hat Studios' expertise and resources to enhance its operational capacity. This isn't the first time the company has turned to mergers and acquisitions to boost its regional presence. In September, it confirmed plans to acquire Gaming Arts, a Nevada-based supplier. Collaborating with the highly experienced Merkur team will unlock new opportunities for us in igaming and improve our ability to create a top-notch omnichannel offering that will benefit both operators and players, Whitworth stated.
