MGA confirms cancellation of Winzon Group’s license

The gambling watchdog in Malta, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), has announced it is proceeding with the cancellation of the license of one gambling operator. The decision, confirmed earlier this week, affects Winzon Group Limited, a gambling company that operated several gambling websites.

The MGA confirmed that its decision to revoke the authorization of Winzon Group is in line with 10 (2) (b) of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations (S.L. 583.06). A press release by the Authority confirms that while the decision was announced this week, it has taken effect from March 11, 2026. Considering the MGA’s announcement, Winzon Group must immediately remove any reference to the Authority or the previous authorization it had. This, the gambling watchdog said, is in line with article 51 of the country’s Gambling Act. The Company shall remain liable for all applicable obligations emanating from the Act and any other applicable regulatory instrument. The Authority reserves the right to take any other pertinent measures at law in order to recover the outstanding dues to it from the Company should the latter fail to rectify accordingly, the announcement of the MGA reads. According to the gambling regulator, while Winzon Group’s license is cancelled, the company still owes penalties amounting to €147,080. The monetary sanctions, the MGA said, were the result of numerous shortcomings in contravention of the Act and regulatory instruments issued thereunder. At the same time, Winzon Group owes €46,693.23 to the MGA, representing license fees and the minimum compliance contributions. Considering the regulatory sanction, the operator was given 30 days to notify all of its players via email that its license is no longer valid. Not unexpectedly, Winzon Group must also refund all player funds in compliance with Malta’s gambling laws. To confirm that all player funds have been refunded, the operator must also provide the MGA with supporting bank statements and back-end system data for the transactions. Last but not least, Winzon Group must process and safeguard the data of its clients.
