A lucky couple from New York recently celebrated an incredible windfall, grabbing a second-tier Mega Millions prize and walking away with a delightful $2 million.

The couple decided to split the $2m Mega Millions prize

A couple from Massapequa, Nassau County, struck it lucky this week. They bought their winning ticket at Manya Card and Gifts, located at 1250C Hicksville Rd in Seaford, and the New York Lottery broke the exciting news. Their ticket matched all the white balls, securing them a tier-two prize that usually stands at $1 million. However, a recent change to Mega Millions introduced a random multiplier for each ticket, which turned their good fortune into an incredible $2 million, courtesy of a 2x multiplier in the April 15 drawing. The winning numbers that day were 06, 10, 13, 24, 63 with a Mega Ball of 02. The New York Lottery shared that the couple doubled their usual $1 million second prize thanks to this unique Multiplier system, which randomly assigns a 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or even 10x multiplier at the time of purchase. When it came time to collect their prize, the couple decided to split the $2 million evenly. After taxes, each walked away with a one-time cash sum of $651,000. Although they chose not to share how they plan to use their newfound wealth, their win is a remarkable milestone in their lives.

The popular game's jackpot is an estimated $140m

Late last month, a single lucky ticket holder in Virginia hit the jackpot by winning the Mega Millions. Back then, the grand prize stood at an estimated $348 million, or about $155.5 million in cash. In the latest Mega Millions draw on Tuesday, the massive prize remained untouched, as no ticket matched all the white balls and the golden Mega Ball. If someone had hit the jackpot in that draw, they would be looking at $130 million, or a cash option of $57.5 million. Surprisingly, Tuesday’s draw didn’t even see a winner for the second-tier prize of matching five white balls. Set your sights on the next big opportunity, scheduled for Friday, August 1, 2025. This time, the jackpot is estimated at $140 million, with a cash option of $62 million. (
