A North Carolina resident from the town of Bolivia, who received lottery tickets as a gift, decided to test his luck and was astonished to win a life-changing prize. The North Carolina Education Lottery announced that the lucky man won a $1 million tier-two prize from the $10 Million Spectacular ticket.
After winning the life-changing prize, the man was in disbelief
A lottery official reported that a fortunate winner recently confessed to receiving lottery tickets as a birthday gift a few weeks ago. The man, who had never played the lottery before, decided to give it a shot because of the gift. He purchased a $50 ticket for the $10 Million Spectacular game at Han-Dee Hugo's on Southport-Supply Road Southeast in Bolivia. I went with my instincts, he said with a laugh. Initially, the Bolivia resident believed he had won $50 after scratching the ticket. To his amazement, he had actually won a second-tier prize of $1 million. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the real amount. It was unbelievable, he remarked. When asked about his plans for the unexpected windfall, the winner expressed his intention to help his family. He recently visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters to claim his substantial prize. As is customary with winnings of this scale, he had the option of receiving either the full $1 million through annuity payments of $50,000 per year for 20 years or a one-time lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum option. After state and federal taxes, his bank account grew by $430,514.
Many more prizes remain in play from the $50 ticket
Players who wish to try their luck with the $10 Million Spectacular ticket have the chance to win prizes ranging from $50 to $10 million. Each ticket costs $50, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.11. For the top prize of $10 million, the odds are 1 in 3,255,582. Originally, five of these top prizes were available, but only two remain. Following a recent $1 million tier-two win, there are now two such prizes still available. The odds of winning $1 million with a $50 scratch-off ticket are 1 in 813,895.5. Similarly, the odds of winning a tier-three prize of $100,000 are the same. Out of 20 initially available tier-three prizes, four are still up for grabs. Many more prizes are available in the lower tiers, ranging from $50,000 to $50.
