Farthing purchased the winning lottery ticket at Clark's Pump-N-Shop, which will also receive a bonus of over $37,000 for selling the ticket. It was his mother, Grizzle, who discovered the win. She was alerted by a friend's text that mentioned someone in Georgetown, where Farthing had bought the ticket, had won the $167 million Powerball jackpot. Grizzle checked her ticket and confirmed that the numbers matched the winning ones from the Saturday, April 26 draw: 1, 12, 14, 18, and 69, with the Powerball number 2. The realization that her son's ticket had won left her in disbelief. She immediately called Farthing, asking incredulously if they had truly won. Farthing reassured her that if the numbers on their ticket matched the winning numbers, they must have won at least some of the prize. On Monday, Farthing and Grizzle visited the Kentucky Lottery headquarters to verify their win. They have not yet claimed their reward, as they have 60 days to consider their options.
