Terry Rozier maintains innocence in new bribery charges

Terry Rozier, the NBA free agent who is facing a sprawling legal action over his alleged participation in a betting scheme, pleaded not guilty to the latest charges of sports bribery and honest-services wire fraud conspiracy in a Brooklyn federal court on Wednesday, June 10. Rozier is accused, as per the latest charges, of having accepted money - effectively a bribe - to let bettors through an intermediary know when Rozier would fake an injury and leave a game early to affect the outcome of a sports betting market. The newest charges come on top of the ones he is already facing - including wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering. Prosecutors maintain that Rozier did so in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans on March 23, 2023, exiting the game with five points and two assists and never returning. Rozier and another co-defendant, Deniro Laster, were in it together. Rozier tipped Laster, who then sold the information to others, who would then bet on specific performance markers for the free agent. Rozier allegedly received a $100,000 kickback. Besides this, Rozier is alleged to have provided non publicly available information to gamblers who then placed wagers on the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors, and Orlando Magic - all over the course of a single year. Rozier is presently pressing for that case to be thrown out, with a ruling yet to come, while he will now have to forfeit most of his $26.6m paycheck for the 2025-26 season. The outcome of the charges that he presently faces remains to be seen.
