Wynn Al Marjan may be delayed after all, a report suggests

Every time a news update was made public regarding the future of Wynn Al Marjan, Wynn Resorts metaphorically beamed optimism. The construction property was moving along nicely, and the opening date was still fixed on the calendar.

But this may be changing now, several months into the 2026 Iran War, amidst intensified military action from all sides, and a deadlock on regional travel and commerce, with a new report by Bloomberg suggesting that Wynn Resorts may be revising its opening date amid the ongoing hostilities. Construction itself is not threatened, as work at the $5.1bn project, which will host the Middle East’s first casino resort, is still ongoing, bar a brief pause in March. However, these delays and the ongoing geopolitical conflict may force Wynn Resorts’ hand to revise its original date from early 2027 to later in the same year. The property is currently developed by Wynn Resorts and local partners Marjan and RAK HospitalityHolding, and previously, it was rumored that a second casino was discussed as part of the same project. Wynn Resorts has not made any official announcement about a potential postponement of the opening date of the casino resort, but should the conflict drag on, it would most likely force the company’s hand to scale back its immediate expectations.

All the while, Iran and the United States have failed to agree, with bothsides placing evolving demands on their adversary in the space of days, and then reneging on previous demands to put forward new ones. The development site is a group of artificial islands about 50 miles from the Dubai International Airport, which makes it easy to get to for inbound travelers, but the ongoing hostilities pose a fresh threat as well-heeled visitors may prefer not to risk getting shot at. Regardless, with likely more than a year to go before the opening date, tourism and local traveling should go back to normal before long.
