In under a week, another Michigander has struck it rich, claiming a million-dollar prize from Powerball. This time, fortune smiled on a lucky player from Detroit, who snagged an impressive $2 million tier-two prize in Wednesday's drawing, as announced by the Michigan Lottery.

Winner misses jackpot by a single number

The identity of the lucky Michigan winner remains a mystery, but here’s what we do know: their winning ticket was bought at Sunkiss Market on Puritan Street in Detroit. The Powerball numbers drawn on Wednesday were 3, 16, 29, 61, 69, with the Powerball being 22. This fortunate player missed just one number, landing a second-tier prize instead of the full jackpot. Normally, this win would have been $1 million, but the Power Play feature doubled that amount to an impressive $2 million. Remarkably, this is the second time recently that a Michigan resident has almost captured the Powerball jackpot. Earlier in the week, another lucky player from Grosse Pointe matched the five white balls, securing a $1 million prize. Michigan Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli expressed her enthusiasm, saying, A lucky player who bought a Powerball ticket in Detroit is waking up to a big $2 million win! Congratulations to Michigan’s newest millionaire. She also noted the excitement building as the jackpot continues to grow ahead of Saturday night's drawing.

Powerball jackpot becomes third largest, $1.70bn up for grabs on Saturday

The Powerball jackpot has soared to impressive new heights, now ranking as the third biggest in the game's history after surviving Wednesday's draw. Anticipation builds as we head into the next draw on Saturday, September 6, 2025, with the breathtaking top prize estimated at $1.70 billion, or a cash option of $770.3 million. If the jackpot is claimed, it will be one for the books, standing just behind the record-breaking $1.765 billion prize won in October 2023 and the all-time high of $2.04 billion clinched on November 7, 2022. As the Powerball prize swells, so does the excitement of its devoted followers. In the most recent draw, over 5 million players discovered winning moments across various prize levels. Among them were 11 lucky individuals who each took home $1 million, and four exceptionally fortunate players who won $2 million each with Power Play.
