KSA introduces exciting new guidelines for gaming arcades and halls.

The Netherlands Gambling Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has unveiled new guidance aimed at strengthening the duty of care in land-based gaming halls.

Recent insights have emerged from a thorough evaluation of duty-of-care measures, following visits to gaming arcades nationwide. These on-site inspections by the Dutch gambling authority offered a deeper understanding of how current guidelines are being applied, leading to new recommendations for enhancement. In light of these observations, the KSA announced on Tuesday the release of updated guidance for licensed gaming halls, complete with detailed explanations and practical tools. However, they noted that this guidance introduces no new regulations. Michel Groothuizen, Chairman of the KSA, highlighted the agency's dedication to bolstering care responsibilities within gaming halls. While online providers can often monitor duty of care factors more easily, it presents unique challenges in physical casinos, he remarked. During discussions with arcade owners, Groothuizen observed their willingness to enhance their duty-of-care practices, though they sometimes encounter difficulties in its effective implementation. He emphasized that the new guidance offers ample resources and tools for gaming hall employees. Groothuizen concluded by expressing optimism: By collaborating closely, we aim to ensure that even at traditional venues, player protection remains a top priority.

With the introduction of Wet Koa, the nation's Gambling Act, gaming arcades and halls now carry a greater responsibility for ensuring player well-being. These venues must actively work to prevent and address gambling addiction and risky behaviors. Although there have been efforts to meet these requirements, the KSA identified areas where improvement is needed. In response, the gambling watchdog teamed up with industry partners to create comprehensive new guidelines. These guidelines clearly outline what is expected, offering examples of best practices and common pitfalls. To further enhance awareness, they’ve released a series of frequently asked questions, an informative animation, and a striking poster, all emphasizing the crucial role of duty of care. A key feature of these new standards for arcades is the Guideline for Identity and Cruks Verification, ensuring that safety remains the top priority.
