Fortune smiles on college grad with a $1m win from matching five.

Recently, a man from Anne Arundel County, Michigan, decided to try his luck with Powerball, as the jackpot was quite large. He bought tickets from his regular spot, the Royal Farms at 1558 Annapolis Road in Odenton. Although his identity remains private, he chose the nickname Powerball Bulldog after his school mascot. At first, he didn't realize he had won a million-dollar prize. The Bowie State University graduate learned about his win through a message from his mother, aware of his habit of playing Powerball and buying tickets from that Odenton store. He explained to a Maryland Lottery official that he always entered the store from the left side, while his mother sent him a photo of the right side, where the winning ticket had been sold. Not recognizing it, he initially dismissed the idea, telling his mom it wasn't him. A few days later, curiosity got the better of him, and he checked his tickets. Upon receiving a message that said, Go to Lottery, he revisited a retail location to confirm. It was then he realized he had actually won a $1 million tier-two prize from the Powerball drawing on July 28. I was ecstatic. I am that person who won, he shared. He plans to use some of his winnings to pay bills.

Powerball jackpot nears $1 billion

The Powerball jackpot rolled over on Monday, causing it to grow even larger. The top prize is now projected to reach $975 million for the upcoming drawing on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Should someone win the next round, the cash option will stand at $422.3 million. With over 40 draws without a winner, this jackpot is now among the largest in the game's history.
