Robeson County man takes down Jumbo Bucks top prize

The winner, a Pembroke, Robeson County, man, won one of the remaining top prizes from the North Carolina Education Lottery’s Jumbo Bucks game. The fortunate player’s winning ticket was purchased at Alex’s Mini Mart on NC 72 West in Pembroke. To the surprise of the player, the $10 scratch-off brought him a whopping $1m top prize. Seeing a single ticket bring a life-changing prize, the player booked an appointment to claim his windfall. Arriving at the lottery headquarters late last week, the winner faced a difficult choice: to collect the entire $1m prize via annuity payments of $50,000 for 20 years, or take home a one-time, cash sum of $600,000. Not unexpectedly, as most players do, the winner picked the latter option. After the applicable state and federal taxes, the lucky player’s bank account increased by $432,063. The winner did not reveal what his plans for his newfound fortune were.
