During a recent police operation, several individuals allegedly involved in horse betting were apprehended, with two more suspects still on the run. Reports from Hans India reveal that a scheme operated through a WhatsApp group named “Shinewell Enterprises.” This group included 105 bettors, reportedly organized by a 45-year-old man believed to be at the heart of this gambling operation. The investigation uncovered that this illegal betting ring handled transactions totaling Rs 8.34 crore, equivalent to nearly $952,000. As a result of the police's efforts, four suspects are now in custody. Authorities seized Rs 2 lakh in cash, about $2,300, and have frozen a bank account containing close to $3,000.

Suspects are facing different charges

Four individuals, aged between 45 and 55, have been apprehended in connection with an illegal gambling network. Two more suspects are still on the run, said to be evading justice and conspicuously absent from work. Whether additional people are tangled up in this operation remains a mystery. The charges against these suspects are serious. They are being prosecuted under the Telangana Gaming Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This operation was executed with precision by officers from the Jawahar Nagar Police and the Rachakonda Special Operations Team (SOT) Malkjgiri on Sunday. Despite this crackdown, illegal gambling is a persistent thorn in India’s side. The allure and accessibility of illegal online gambling platforms make enforcement a daunting task. These operators are savvy, constantly shifting strategies to keep their illicit offerings thriving. In India, the consequences for engaging in illegal gambling can vary greatly but typically result in fines and several months behind bars. In severe cases, the punishment can escalate to substantial fines and up to five years of imprisonment.
