As we gear up for the SBC Summit 2025, SBC Events is thrilled to unveil the Legends Charity Game set for Monday, September 15. This event promises to be a hallmark of our upcoming gatherings. Rasmus Sojmark, the visionary Founder and CEO of SBC, spoke enthusiastically about hosting this remarkable event, calling it a dream come true. The game will bring together legendary Portuguese soccer stars and pit them against some of the globe’s finest contemporary players. A thrilling crowd of 60,000 will witness this spectacle at either Estádio da Luz or Estádio José Alvalade, subject to the Champions League schedule. Portuguese icons like Luís Figo, Deco, Carvalho, Simão, Maniche, Fábio Coentrão, Vitor Baia, Nuno Gomes, and Hélder Postiga will grace the field for the Portugal Legends team. Leading the World Legends team will be Georgios Karagounis, gathering an array of international talent. Sojmark passionately shares that the event aims to raise over €1,000,000 for a quartet of worthy causes: the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, the Portuguese Red Cross, International Alert, and another esteemed charity. We’ve invested heart and soul into making this special, not out of obligation, but from belief. The players share this vision. It’s set to be moving and genuinely spectacular, and we’re eager to share it with everyone, Sojmark expressed with fervor. Reflecting on his motivations, Sojmark recalls his soccer-loving youth. Had you told the younger me, glued to video games and building dream teams with icons like Figo and Zanetti, that I’d one day set up a real match filled with legends, I’d never have believed it, he reminisced. He added color to the World Legends team, recalling Karagounis' role as Greece's captain in 2004. With him leading the World Legends, some Portuguese players might be seeking a bit of a rematch for that Euro 2004 final. This history enriches the game. It’s about more than the lineup; it’s about stories, rivalries, and shared memories, Sojmark elaborated. Esteemed football greats like Edwin van der Sar, Marco Materazzi, Cafu, Javier Zanetti, Christian Karembeu, Patrice Evra, Carles Puyol, and Marek Hamšík will join this star-studded lineup, managed by Peter Schmeichel with Diego Lugano as his assistant. When asked about the significance of this match within the SBC Summit festivities, Sojmark remarked, Football is magical in its ability to unite people like nothing else. I’ve seen strangers become friends—or fierce rivals—over a last-second goal. It evokes passion and hope year after year. Yet, beyond that, football connects us. It’s a powerful platform to rally behind meaningful causes. Acknowledging the potential impact of their €1,000,000 goal, he added, We want to be transparent about what this match can achieve. To maximize reach, the game will be broadcast and streamed with coverage akin to the Champions League. Securing sponsors played a vital role, underscored by Sojmark’s commitment to more than logo placements. We’re crafting something significant. A lineup of true football legends, a lofty goal of €1,000,000, support for four important charities, and most importantly, a belief in football’s power to unite and inspire action. Set for September 15, just before SBC Summit 2025 kicks off, Sojmark sees this as a purposeful, emotive opening. With 30,000 delegates expected, the Legends Charity Game offers a moment of reflection and meaningful action. It’s about uniting players, fans, industry figures, and communities in a shared experience. Starting the week this way adds heart, not just formalities, reshaping the tone of all that follows, Sojmark concluded.
