Rising prices in Las Vegas, Nevada, have emerged as a significant challenge for tourists, possibly contributing to a broader decline in tourism. Las Vegas Locally, a well-regarded publication, took to its social media platform, X, to connect with its followers and probe the reasons behind the slump in 2025 tourism. The survey offered four choices: high prices, President Donald Trump's policies, economic uncertainty, and unsure.

High prices are the chief culprit for tourism’s dwindling numbers

Many respondents felt that soaring prices were the primary reason behind the downturn in tourism, with 68% sharing personal stories to support this view. Donovan, for example, recounted how two rounds of Old Fashioneds at an MGM Lobby Bar ended up costing $125 with a 20% tip. While some mentioned Trump's influence on the drop in Canadian visitors, the overwhelming consensus was that exorbitant costs were the main deterrent keeping people from spending at Las Vegas casinos and resorts. Another issue raising eyebrows was the tipping culture, which many said had spiraled out of control. Despite these heated discussions, the conversation beneath the poll remained largely politically neutral. Though a few voiced their dislike for President Trump, there was reluctance to pin the blame solely on him. One social media user mentioned that high prices would persist regardless of who the president was. Others echoed this sentiment, with one person lamenting, It's honestly too expensive.

Trump perhaps shares some of the blame, but far from all of it

A mere 22.3% of those surveyed pointed the finger at President Trump's policies, taking a swipe at the contentious Big Beautiful Bill, which has become a battleground for local Democrats. Meanwhile, 7.4% identified economic uncertainty as the greatest challenge they face, and 2.2% were unsure. On social media, users showed impressive insight, emphasizing that it’s a complex issue, with multiple contributing factors, echoing the sentiments shared by Las Vegas Locally.
