Ygam, an award-winning charity dedicated to education and protecting young people from gaming and gambling harm, has expanded its range of prevention programs with a new initiative aimed at young gamers. Recently, the charity announced details of the Gaming & Esports Programme, which is designed to offer support and education to young gamers, their parents, carers, and professionals in the esports and gaming industries.

The Gaming & Esports programme will address a number of important topics

The comprehensive program will address a variety of crucial topics, including the influence of advertising and the development of gaming mechanics. Additionally, the initiative will concentrate on virtual currencies, microtransactions, and the impact of gaming on motivation and mental health. Ygam's Gaming & Esports Programme will explore the advantages of esports as a career path and address other significant issues within the gaming and gambling sectors. Ultimately, the program aims to

create a safer, more supportive experience for young people,
as stated by Ygam in a press release. In February, the charity launched a pilot version of the program, which was implemented with young people at the Sheffield United Community Foundation and esports students from Sheffield Hallam University. Ygam reported that the pilot was successfully delivered and well-received by young participants, as well as university and foundation officials.

The initiative seeks to prevent the normalization of inappropriate behavior

Lia Thompson, President of the Gaming & Esports Society at Sheffield Hallam University, expressed her enthusiasm after attending the pilot session of the new Ygam program.

I believe the new Ygam initiative is crucial. While the gaming and esports industries are progressing positively with enhanced mechanisms for reporting inappropriate behavior, it's essential to address these issues proactively,
she stated. Thompson highlighted the importance of raising awareness about inappropriate conduct to prevent its normalization. She added,
If we can encourage young people to think about these issues early, we can prevent them from occurring in the first place. Ygam's new program is instrumental in achieving this.
Having experienced such inappropriate behavior in the gaming industry since a young age, Thompson noted that many youngsters mistakenly view this behavior as a means to gain acceptance in the community. She emphasized,
This is not an authentic representation of oneself, and online toxicity should not be tolerated.
Thompson reiterated the significance of Ygam's program, forecasting its potential to assist young people and reduce inappropriate behavior. This initiative arises at a time when the global esports market is experiencing substantial growth, with estimates suggesting it will reach $10.91 billion by 2032. By 2024, over 80% of young adults aged 16 to 24 are expected to engage with video games. Without a doubt, Ygam's new program will play a vital role in educating and protecting young individuals within the gaming sector.
