The Times of India reported that law enforcement conducted a raid at a location in Dariapur on Sunday evening. This venue, interestingly enough, is labeled as a sports club but runs as a private company. The same establishment faced a raid back in July 2021, when law enforcement took 183 individuals into custody on suspicion of illegal gambling. That operation was one of the largest illegal gambling busts in Ahmedabad. In this recent raid, the Gujarat Police's State Monitoring Cell (SMC) arrested 150 suspects. Their swift actions led to the seizure of equipment such as mobile phones, computers, and other valuable items. Additionally, cash and cars were confiscated during this crackdown. While it's unclear how long this illegal gambling spot had been operating before law enforcement intervened again, the fact that it was previously raided indicates that gambling activities persisted despite earlier arrests.

Suspects could be charged with gambling-related offenses.

Authorities are currently questioning 150 individuals detained on suspicion of gambling. Investigations focus on possible violations of the Prevention of Gambling Act concerning some suspects. In Gujarat, those involved in gambling cases may face varying charges. For instance, participating in activities at a common gaming house could result in up to nine months in prison and fines. In contrast, those who organize, manage, or assist in running gambling houses could face up to two years of imprisonment and financial penalties. Repeat offenders face even harsher consequences for violating gambling laws. The recent operation by SMC officers bypassed local police, sparking renewed concerns about potential corruption within local law enforcement.
